Concussion Management

We offer comprehensive treatment plans for concussion management.

A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury caused by a blow or a jolt to the head, usually from falls, motor vehicle injuries, assaults and sports injuries. The injury keeps the brain from working normally. Individuals may or may not experience a loss of consciousness (LOC) with the incident – in fact, only approximately 10% of concussions involve LOC.

Symptoms of a concussion may last a few days or even weeks, and some people can have longer-lasting problems. Signs and symptoms of concussion are believed to be an alteration in brain function, not indicative of structural damage to the brain. Children, young adults, and older adults are especially at high risk for concussions and may take longer to recover.

The most common signs and symptoms of concussion may include one or more of the following:

  • Headache
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Balance problems
  • Dizziness
  • Fuzzy or blurry vision
  • Feeling tired; having no energy
  • Sensitivity to light and noise
  • Nervousness or anxiety
  • Sleep disturbance
  • Difficulty concentrating

At Healing Haven Physiotherapy, we assess the presenting signs and symptoms and treat any impairments may be responsive to physiotherapy management. Treatment, planning, and exercise will support the individual’s return-to-play/return-to-activity progression.
